The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, João Carlos Teles managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vikings's supporters rose to their feet, but João Carlos Teles was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rômulo do Valle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 18th minute, Giuseppe Queiroz had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. 18 minutes into the game, Agnaldo Duarte was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Funorte Esporte Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vikings the free kick. Agnaldo Duarte kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. Ricardinho Almeida came out of the goal and Evaristo de Andrade tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jacinto das Neves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rômulo do Valle having to make a save. The supporters of Vikings booed when Funorte Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Evaristo de Andrade didn't get a good kick on the ball. A hard shot 33 in the game by João Carlos Teles from a close distance when the talented Rômulo do Valle managed to make a qualified save. Funorte Esporte Clube's players were relieved. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Roberto do Vale managed to get in a good position for a shot. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Chiquinho Senna to strike the kick off in the second half. If Luiz Fábio Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ricardinho Almeida showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Fábio Magalhães in the 53rd minute of the match. Evaristo de Andrade charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Evaristo de Andrade the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Giovanni Soeiro in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rômulo do Valle prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee gave Funorte Esporte Clube a penalty, 75 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Agnaldo Duarte, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Vikings's Ricardinho Almeida. 1-1. Giovanni Soeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Rômulo do Valle tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Régis das Neves during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jacinto das Neves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vikings's Júnior Marques got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Giovanni Soeiro came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Vikings fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Giovanni Soeiro couldn't finish the play. Giovanni Soeiro scored 2-1 in the 89th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rômulo do Valle, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Giovanni Soeiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rômulo do Valle having to interfere. If Jacinto das Neves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vikings's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
