Chiquinho Senna started the match with the kick off. After 3 minutes, Chiquinho Senna mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Funorte Esporte Clube and the Celeste SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Celeste SC booed when Funorte Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chiquinho Senna didn't get a good kick on the ball. Maurício Gaspar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chiquinho Senna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Funorte Esporte Clube's Rômulo do Valle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elano Romero in the 12th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Funorte Esporte Clube's Luiz Fábio Magalhães got a free kick in the 13th minute. Alfredinho Quadros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Rômulo do Valle tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 17 minutes into the match, Celeste SC's goal looked a bit too open when Chiquinho Senna came free, but Maurício Gaspar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Celeste SC's zone, Luiz Fábio Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Maurício Gaspar came out of the goal and Luiz Fábio Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Evaristo de Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 24th minute, but Maurício Gaspar got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving Celeste SC hanging dry this time. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Evaristo de Andrade managed to get in a good position for a shot. Funorte Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Evaristo de Andrade was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Maurício Gaspar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Elano Romero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rômulo do Valle having to interfere. 35 minutes into the game, Celeste SC's Elano Romero nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rômulo do Valle made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Rômulo do Valle took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elano Romero, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rômulo do Valle stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Elano Romero's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Funorte Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Rômulo do Valle, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Alfredinho Quadros blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rômulo do Valle having to make a save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
