A collision led to Mangunca getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Dênis Prestes hit a great ball. After having played for 23 minutes, Bruninho Vasconcelos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mangunca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bruninho Vasconcelos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 30th minute, Ciro Prestes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Emílio Barbosa was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. If Elano Neves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 35th minute, PORTO's Enéas Madureira dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. 39 minutes into the match, Ciro Prestes notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of PORTO's Emílio Barbosa. Emílio Barbosa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Emílio Barbosa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bruninho Vasconcelos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The PORTO players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Mangunca were winning 1-2.

After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Elano Neves managed to get in a good position for a shot. PORTO's supporters rose to their feet, but Elano Neves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Enio Abreu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 67 minutes into the game, PORTO's Elano Neves nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Enio Abreu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Bruninho Vasconcelos came free with the goalkeeper in the 73rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. Mangunca's Enio Abreu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elano Neves in the 83rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Elano Neves managed to get in a good position for a shot. PORTO's supporters rose to their feet, but Elano Neves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
