The audience thought a goal was coming when Luís Paulo Arantes got free with Emílio Paraibano in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 18 minutes into the match, JanZan's Noel Lopez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Emílio Paraibano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind JanZan's goalkeeper Alfredinho Macedo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ademir Vergílio might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alfredinho Macedo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
