The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, GRÊMIO's goal looked a bit too open when Edvaldo Araújo came free, but Kléberson Coelho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Kléberson Coelho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edmond Soucy, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. Narciso Hoffmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ademar Sarmento in the 9th minute of play. In the 11th minute Rodri Gol shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Narciso Hoffmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 14th minute, Edmond Soucy ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kléberson Coelho was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 17 minutes into the game, Tactics FF's Edmond Soucy nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kléberson Coelho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. In the 21st minute Genílson Furtado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kléberson Coelho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rodri Gol took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Narciso Hoffmann. Narciso Hoffmann dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Kléberson Coelho came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Tactics FF's Edmond Soucy. But to his dismay, Edmond Soucy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmond Soucy in the 36th minute of play forced GRÊMIO's goalkeeper Kléberson Coelho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. GRÊMIO's Kléberson Coelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Genílson Furtado in the 38th minute of play. Narciso Hoffmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Antônio Carlos Marquez in the 40th minute of play. In the 43rd minute Alfons Ödmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kléberson Coelho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kléberson Coelho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Genílson Furtado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 2-4.

Tactics FF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ramiro Guedes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kléberson Coelho was out of position in the 63 minute of play, and Genílson Furtado capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Genílson Furtado really showed his touch with that goal: 2-7. After 66 played minutes GRÊMIO got a freekick which was hit by Rodri Gol. A collision led to Tactics FF getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Genílson Furtado hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alfons Ödmann got free with Kléberson Coelho in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Kléberson Coelho was a little too slow when Genílson Furtado got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 75th minute. The score was now 2-8. After some careless play in the GRÊMIO defense, Alfons Ödmann kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kléberson Coelho. The GRÊMIO fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kléberson Coelho should have stopped the shot. In the 83rd minute, Edmond Soucy reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Kléberson Coelho.
