After a defensive mix-up in CR Independente's zone, Geovanni Sampaio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Victor Fantini came out of the goal and Geovanni Sampaio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Délio Urbano in the 7th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Victor Fantini saved CR Independente from getting behind. Iraty Sport Club's Geovanni Sampaio got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Geovanni Sampaio came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Iraty Sport Club fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Geovanni Sampaio couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Orlando Motta during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Iraty Sport Club booed when CR Independente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Orlando Motta didn't get a good kick on the ball. 24 minutes into the match, CR Independente's goalkeeper Victor Fantini had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Geovanni Sampaio. If Dalmo Mineiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 36th minute, Orlando Motta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Natã Vides was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After 39 minutes, Geovanni Sampaio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Iraty Sport Club and the CR Independente players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 39th match minute, Iraty Sport Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geovanni Sampaio to maneuver through the defense. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Orlando Motta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
