When Fabiano Neves fell near the penalty area in the 2nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sanguessuga's protests and gave Fabiano Neves a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Santo FC booed when Sanguessuga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabiano Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. 5 minutes into the match, Santo FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gilmar Linhares came free, but Thiago de Azevedo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 8 minutes, José Vítor da Fonseca mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Santo FC and the Sanguessuga players grew even worse after the yellow card. Marquinhos Ramalho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Caco de Salles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With his leg Caco de Salles managed to avoid a goal in the 18thth minute, when Santo FC's Sandro Galvão fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 21 minutes into the match, Santo FC's goal looked a bit too open when Kaká Motta came free, but Thiago de Azevedo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Kaká Motta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sanguessuga's supporters rose to their feet, but Kaká Motta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Thiago de Azevedo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Gilmar Linhares came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Sanguessuga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gilmar Linhares couldn't finish the play. In the 26th minute, Fabiano Neves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marquinhos Ramalho in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Caco de Salles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kaká Motta in the 35th minute of play forced Santo FC's goalkeeper Thiago de Azevedo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Sandro Galvão came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the Santo FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sandro Galvão couldn't finish the play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Paulão Rodrigues during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Paulão Rodrigues kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. Through an outstanding action, after 44 minutes, Caco de Salles successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marquinhos Ramalho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Kaká Motta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Thiago de Azevedo having to interfere. Álvaro Neiva hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Sanguessuga's Rui Chaves got a free kick in the 64th minute. If Sandro Galvão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 71st minute, Kaká Motta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 73rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Santo FC's goalkeeper Thiago de Azevedo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gilmar Linhares's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thiago de Azevedo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 81st minute of play. In the 82nd minute, Marquinhos Ramalho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Caco de Salles was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Santo FC's Thiago de Azevedo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kaká Motta in the 92nd minute of play. José Vítor da Fonseca kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. When Fabiano Neves was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 94 minutes had been played. The supporters of Santo FC booed when Sanguessuga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabiano Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. Santo FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
