Santo FC's Thiago de Azevedo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gildo Lago in the 17th minute of play. Iuri Almeida hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Santo FC's zone, Gildo Lago stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Thiago de Azevedo came out of the goal and Gildo Lago tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With his leg Thiago de Azevedo managed to avoid a goal in the 26thth minute, when GladiadoresFC's Tião Pombal fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 34 minutes into the match, Marquinhos Ramalho notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of GladiadoresFC's Diamantino Carvalho. Diamantino Carvalho was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 42 played minutes Santo FC got a freekick which was hit by José Vítor da Fonseca. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
