Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Washington Corrêa in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benjamim Faria prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 36 minutes into the match, Toledo Esporte Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Walmyr de Senna came free, but Kléber Lopez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rony Jacinto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Allan Correia couldn't finish the play. The Toledo Esporte Clube players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Defunto EC were winning 0-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Washington Corrêa was the one to do the kick off. In the 65th match minute, Defunto EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raúl Paiva to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 66 minutes, Alexsandro Gaúcho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Toledo Esporte Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alexsandro Gaúcho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Walmyr de Senna came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Defunto EC fans jumped to their feet. Alexsandro Gaúcho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Washington Corrêa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 99th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Defunto EC succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Toledo Esporte Clube had controlled the match.
