With an all-out effort, Imperial's Luizão Terra threw himself towards the right post 29 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from John Holm, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. SC Corinthians Paulista's Tales Madureira suffered a sore thigh after 32 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Marcinho Coutinho charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Marcinho Coutinho the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luizão Terra prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Betinho Bastos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luizão Terra having to interfere. If John Holm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
