Luiz Fernando Alagoano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 14 minutes into the match, santos's goal looked a bit too open when Flávio Tinoco came free, but Cláudio Alcântara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 22nd minute Jairo Vianna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio Alcântara saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Víktor Batista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Flávio Tinoco in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cláudio Alcântara saved santos from getting behind. Denílson Gaúcho didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Víktor Batista went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Víktor Batista could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Denílson Gaúcho made a huge save. After having played for 43 minutes, Pedro Augusto Branco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. santos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Augusto Branco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Pedro Augusto Branco was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, CFZ's Murilo Madureira got a free kick in the 51st minute. Denílson Gaúcho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Víktor Batista, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jairo Vianna recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Tomás Mattos kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. After some careless play in the CFZ defense, Pedro Augusto Branco kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Denílson Gaúcho. The CFZ fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Denílson Gaúcho should have stopped the shot. If Jairo Vianna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to CFZ getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. João Vítor Miranda hit a great ball. In the 75th minute, Pedro Augusto Branco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Denílson Gaúcho was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. The supporters of CFZ booed when santos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eriberto dos Santos didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jairo Vianna got free with Cláudio Alcântara in the 80th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 81 minutes, Raúl Lira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the santos and the CFZ players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 81st minute, one of santos:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for santos. Gildo Gerber charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gildo Gerber the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Rubens Zanette placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Flávio Tinoco was extremely unlucky when he, in the 92nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. CFZ's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
