Alex Braga showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cléberson Valladares, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. If Iuri Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Maranhão Futebol Clube's Lúcio Vieira got a free kick in the 24th minute. Iuri Senna struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. But to his dismay, Joaquim Amorim quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Cléberson Valladares to strike the kick off in the second half. When Iuri Senna came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the corinthias fss fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Iuri Senna couldn't finish the play. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
