The audience thought a goal was coming when Emílio Munhoz got free with Nando Melo in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erasmo Neiva in the 38th minute of play forced AS Novelli's goalkeeper Nando Melo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 44 minutes, Cleiton Arantes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AS Novelli's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cleiton Arantes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 47 played minutes PALMEIRAS got a freekick which was hit by Sidney Dracena.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luís Fernando Catarinense stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Nando Melo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erasmo Neiva, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. In the 55th minute of the match PALMEIRAS got a corner. AS Novelli's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ruy Tasso took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 61st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Cipriano Trancoso. PALMEIRAS's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Vladimir Hoffmann fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AS Novelli's protests and gave Vladimir Hoffmann a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of PALMEIRAS booed when AS Novelli was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vladimir Hoffmann didn't get a good kick on the ball. Erasmo Neiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nando Melo having to interfere. After 66 played minutes AS Novelli got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Fabiano Arruda. Cleiton Arantes in the 70thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Cipriano Trancoso, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Nando Melo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erasmo Neiva in the 73rd minute of the match. In the 83rd minute, Erasmo Neiva got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Erasmo Neiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nando Melo having to interfere. Erasmo Neiva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
