Spectators: 7232 (Terracing: 5426, Seating: 1663, VIP seats: 143) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Anísio Dias started the match with the kick off. When the match clock showed 7 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Alfredo Ortiz sped through Varzeado's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Giuseppe Quirino. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Anísio Dias managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cantori's supporters rose to their feet, but Anísio Dias was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Giuseppe Quirino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jarbas Rosado in the 22nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luís Fábio Souza saved Cantori from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Cantori's zone, Jarbas Rosado stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luís Fábio Souza came out of the goal and Jarbas Rosado tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 28 minutes into the match, Cantori's goalkeeper Luís Fábio Souza had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luís Fábio Santos. When Celso Donato fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cantori's protests and gave Celso Donato a yellow card for diving instead. Luís Fábio Santos hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. In the 33rd match minute, Cantori was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bruno Jacinto to maneuver through the defense. It was beautiful to see Varzeado's Severino Barros in action when he in the 35th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Carlos Tróia kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. Celso Donato got his second yellow card in the match during the 44th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After 44 played minutes Cantori got a freekick which was hit by Celso Donato. Luís Fábio Souza was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jarbas Rosado showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 48 minute of play.

Luís Fábio Souza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Fábio Santos in the 58th minute of play. With a little luck, Varzeado's Giuseppe Quirino got control of the ball when Alfredo Ortiz tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 70th minute Luís Fábio Santos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Souza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Cantori's goalkeeper Luís Fábio Souza, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 76 minutes into the match, Varzeado's Luís Fábio Santos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Luís Fábio Souza narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Giuseppe Quirino was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Bruno Jacinto. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edmundo Gerber during the 86th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 85 minutes into the game, one of Cantori:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty.
