Edvaldo Sampaio made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. 19 minutes into the match, Flamengo's Dagoberto Lopes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Edvaldo Sampaio narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 35thth minute of the game Hélder Batista who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but C.A.Paulista's Edvaldo Sampaio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Edvaldo Sampaio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hélder Batista in the 37th minute of the match. In the 38th minute, Fiori Araújo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dino Prado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in C.A.Paulista reached it. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dagoberto Lopes to strike the kick off in the second half. Hélder Batista fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edvaldo Sampaio having to interfere. After 53 minutes, Mateus Oliveira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the C.A.Paulista and the Flamengo players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Flamengo booed when C.A.Paulista was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mateus Oliveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dagoberto Lopes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Edvaldo Sampaio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 70th minute, Hélder Batista got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Dagoberto Lopes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Afonsinho Goiano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edvaldo Sampaio having to interfere. In the 88th minute Dagoberto Lopes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edvaldo Sampaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Flamengo had played much better football throughout.
