The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, E. C. Vila Mariana's goal looked a bit too open when Giuseppe Mattos came free, but Joélson Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Giuseppe Mattos in the 5th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joélson Quadros saved E. C. Vila Mariana from getting behind. Nuno Vieira charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nuno Vieira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Glycerio's Nuno Vieira got a free kick in the 7th minute. In the 9th minute there was a penalty for E. C. Vila Mariana. Ronaldinho Alves stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Chico Alves. 1-0. Glycerio's Chico Alves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by André Luís Tande in the 12th minute of play. André Luís Tande's late challenge caught a Glycerio's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. André Luís Tande helped the player get up and apologised. André Luís Tande kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. If Nuno Donato had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 23 minutes of play, Glycerio's Nuno Donato made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Joélson Quadros was left in no man's land by his defense there! Severino Sá received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Chico Alves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Joélson Quadros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giuseppe Mattos in the 32nd minute of play. Joélson Quadros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Giuseppe Mattos, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nuno Donato in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Joélson Quadros prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Carlos Augusto Reis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Joélson Quadros having to make a save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

After 53 played minutes, Glycerio's Nuno Vieira shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Joélson Quadros came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Glycerio reached it. Manoel Neto charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Manoel Neto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 56 played minutes Glycerio got a freekick which was hit by Manoel Neto. In the 60th minute, Carlos Augusto Dionísio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 61 minutes, Severino Sá mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the E. C. Vila Mariana and the Glycerio players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 62nd match minute, E. C. Vila Mariana was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Severino Sá to maneuver through the defense. Giuseppe Mattos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Joélson Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Nuno Donato had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. Vila Mariana and deserved their victory. The E. C. Vila Mariana players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
