The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 6th minute, Noturno FC's Dito Passos dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. In the 10th minute Valdir Tinoco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Augusto Chaves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edgar Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Váldson de Lima in the 12th minute of play. If Váldson de Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 21 played minutes C R Flamengo got a freekick which was hit by Henrique Barros. In the 23rd minute, Marcelinho Pimenta made a precise shot to the right of Augusto Chaves. Noturno FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. C R Flamengo's Valdir Tinoco got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Marcelinho Pimenta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Augusto Chaves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcelinho Pimenta in the 36th minute of play. 42 minutes into the match, Noturno FC's Váldson de Lima sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Edgar Costa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Valdir Tinoco made a kick off. When Dito Passos came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Noturno FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dito Passos couldn't finish the play. If Dito Passos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Marcelinho Pimentas short, quick shot in the 62ndth minute got Augusto Chaves to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Augusto Chaves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Valdir Tinoco, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. If Marcelinho Pimenta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Váldson de Lima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edgar Costa having to interfere. Valdir Tinoco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The C R Flamengo players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
