The goal made the score 1-0. Gilvan Arce recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 13th minute of the match Vitório Araújo sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Evaristo Meirelles skillfully saved the ball. Atlético Mauá's Evaristo Meirelles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mário Munhoz in the 14th minute of play. In the 17th minute Mário Munhoz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evaristo Meirelles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 26 minutes, Mário Munhoz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grilo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mário Munhoz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Remo Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Evaristo Meirelles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Atlético Mauá's Marcinho Mazza got a free kick in the 29th minute. 34 minutes into the match, Atlético Mauá's goal looked a bit too open when Mário Munhoz came free, but Evaristo Meirelles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Evaristo Meirelles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Remo Azevedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Grilo's Oswaldo Loyola played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilvan Arce in the 39th minute of play. In the 41st minute Umberto Sousa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oswaldo Loyola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oswaldo Loyola showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gilvan Arce, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. A collision led to Atlético Mauá getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Edu de Almeida hit a great ball. If Mário Munhoz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

After 54th play minutes Remo Azevedo shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Evaristo Meirelles and just under the crossbar into goal. If Gilvan Arce had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 73 played minutes Grilo got a freekick which was hit by Luís Fabiano Lago. 77 minutes into the match, Grilo's goal looked a bit too open when Gilvan Arce came free, but Oswaldo Loyola reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Grilo's Mário Munhoz got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 82nd minute Mário Munhoz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evaristo Meirelles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Atlético Mauá's Laércio Munhoz in the 87th minute got a chance for a shot 87th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Grilo's goalie prevented a goal. If Laércio Munhoz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Atlético Mauá's Laércio Munhoz got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
