The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rafinha Bittencourt got free with Leonel Lopez in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 10 minutes into the game, Rubinho Vargas was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Criciuma Tigers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tanhacu the free kick. After a rather tough play, Criciuma Tigers's Rubinho Vargas got a free kick in the 10th minute. When the match had gone on for 16 minutes, Fernando Amorim put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Gilberto de Mendonça. 19 minutes into the match, Criciuma Tigers's goal looked a bit too open when Rodrigo Almeida came free, but Gilberto de Mendonça reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rafinha Bittencourt blasted a shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Leonel Lopez having to make a save. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Claudinho Veiga stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Tanhacu:s Leonel Lopez showed great skill when he stopped Agnaldo Paraíba:s penalty. 66 minutes had been played when some careless play by Tanhacu's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Agnaldo Paraíba was slow to take the kick. During this time Criciuma Tigers's players had a chance to rest. The corner first didn't look so dangerous but when Eliseu Monteiro got the ball he succeeded in some way to get through the defenders to deliver a very hard score. Criciuma Tigers's supporters rose to their feet, but Rubinho Vargas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leonel Lopez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
