The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fausto Arruda sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. João Paulo Damiãos short, quick shot in the 11thth minute got Luiz Fernando Lago to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Fausto Arruda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fernando Lago having to interfere. A hard shot by Anderson do Valle from long distance, 18 minutes into the match, got Luiz Fernando Lago's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. João Paulo Damião received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Luiz Fernando Lago tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Catakeamain's Luiz Fernando Lago got control of the ball when João Paulo Damião tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 32 played minutes Catakeamain got a freekick which was hit by Nilton Montenegro. João Paulo Damião sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 38th minute, Cláudio Sabóia left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Catakeamain fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Doctor Sócrates took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cláudio Sabóia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half Catakeamain were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fausto Arruda to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Impávido Galcölosso EC's Erasmo Salles got a free kick in the 52nd minute. In the 55th minute Catakeamain were awarded a corner. Nilmar Cunha went to the cornerflag to take it. When Benê Tróia fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Impávido Galcölosso EC's protests and gave Benê Tróia a yellow card for diving instead. João Paulo Damião received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Cláudio Sabóia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Catakeamain's zone, João Paulo Damião stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luiz Fernando Lago came out of the goal and João Paulo Damião tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
