Rive's Tostão Mendes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sydney do Nascimento in the 3rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Rive's Edmílson Peixoto got a free kick in the 4th minute. Tostão Mendes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Henrique Lopes's shot from short distance in the 9th minute. In the 10th minute, Henrique Lopes made a precise shot to the right of Tostão Mendes. Rive's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Tostão Mendes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Henrique Lopes, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. In the 15th minute of the match Claudinei Reis shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tostão Mendes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Edmílson Peixoto hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Rive's Dito Palmeira got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rive were furious when Alberto Valadares was red carded, 21 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 21 minutes into the game, one of Rive:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Carcanha SC a penalty, 23 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Vânderson Cavalcante, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Rive's Tostão Mendes. 0-2. Sydney do Nascimento's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tostão Mendes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. In the 29th minute, Henrique Lopes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tostão Mendes was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. In the 34th minute Sydney do Nascimento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tostão Mendes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th match minute, Carcanha SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tarcisio Romero to maneuver through the defense. Olívio Negri could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Dalmo Peixoto made a huge save. Caco Neto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 41st minute, Carcanha SC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Douglas Capixaba fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. If Sydney do Nascimento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sydney do Nascimento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Tostão Mendes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Henrique Lopes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sydney do Nascimento blasted a shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tostão Mendes having to make a save. Douglas Capixaba charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Douglas Capixaba the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Rive getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Douglas Capixaba hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Olívio Negri's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dalmo Peixoto was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. If Douglas Capixaba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Caco Neto in the 65th minute of play forced Carcanha SC's goalkeeper Dalmo Peixoto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Douglas Capixaba received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Dalmo Peixoto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tostão Mendes made a fantastic save in the 77th minute, when Sydney do Nascimento sent off a good shot on target. Olívio Negri blasted a shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dalmo Peixoto having to make a save. After 87 played minutes Carcanha SC got a freekick which was hit by Vânderson Cavalcante. Henrique Lopes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tostão Mendes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Henrique Lopes in the 93rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Rive's Natã Messias got a free kick in the 94th minute. In the 96th minute of the match Vânderson Cavalcante shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tostão Mendes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Carcanha SC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
