The penalty shot was made by Wellington Moreno, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Carona AD's Rubens Breckenfeld. 0-1. In the 12th minute, Rony Paes made a precise shot to the right of Rubens Breckenfeld. Carona AD's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. When Tião Pena fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Carona AD's protests and gave Tião Pena a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Carona AD getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Tião Pena hit a great ball. When Rony Paes came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Tabuleirao fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rony Paes couldn't finish the play. Marcelo Abraão hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. In the 22nd minute, Wellington Moreno sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Carona AD's Rubens Breckenfeld didn't even have to move. After a defensive mix-up in Carona AD's zone, Rony Paes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rubens Breckenfeld came out of the goal and Rony Paes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lino Vale received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dida Medeiros came out and tried to block the shot, but Lino Vale slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 26th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Carona AD's Marcelo Abraão slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dida Medeiros. That made the score 2-2 after 31 minutes of play. In the 37th minute Lino Vale shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Tabuleirao's Dida Medeiros got control of the ball when Tião Pena tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rony Paes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 45 minutes into the match, Carona AD's goal looked a bit too open when Rony Paes came free, but Rubens Breckenfeld reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 46 minutes, Marcelo Abraão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Carona AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcelo Abraão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Valdemar Viana to make the kick off. Tabuleirao's Dida Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelo Abraão in the 54th minute of play. Carona AD's Rubens Breckenfeld proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 56th minute of the match, managed to save Carona AD from getting a goal against them. Orlando Koehler in the 62ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Rubens Breckenfeld, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Tião Pena's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dida Medeiros read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valdemar Viana in the 68th minute of play forced Tabuleirao's goalkeeper Dida Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marcelo Abraão kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. In the 72nd minute, Tabuleirao's Rony Paes dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-3. Lino Vale hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. In the 81st minute, Carona AD's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Rony Paes fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to Carona AD getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Bernardinho Aparecido hit a great ball. In the 87th minute of the match, Rony Paes got a very nice opportunity to score, but Rubens Breckenfeld was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Dida Medeiros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valdemar Viana in the 89th minute of play. Rubens Breckenfeld acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 91st minute, took the ball on the long shot from Ramiro Mello. In the 93rd minute Valdemar Viana shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Tabuleirao supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Tabuleirao would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
