Spectators: 7506 (Terracing: 5630, Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 150) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Paulo Recife started the match with the kick off. Wellington Lopez scored 0-1 in the 8th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Hélio Neiva, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Paulo Recife sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Paulo Recife came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Libertadores fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Paulo Recife couldn't finish the play. Paulo Recife fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bebeto Pires having to interfere. Bebeto Pires made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardinho Matos in the 26th minute of play. Hélio Neiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilbert Coussement in the 28th minute of play. Hélio Neiva took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erivaldo Chaves, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Libertadores's Humberto Catarinense got a free kick in the 32nd minute. 36 minutes into the match, Riachinho's goalkeeper Bebeto Pires had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Paulo Recife. After 39 minutes, Gilbert Coussement mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Riachinho and the Libertadores players grew even worse after the yellow card. Gilbert Coussement hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. 40 minutes into the game, Ricardinho Matos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Libertadores's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Riachinho the free kick. In the 40th match minute, Libertadores was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardinho Matos to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Riachinho's zone, Paulo Recife stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bebeto Pires came out of the goal and Paulo Recife tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Riachinho were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Erivaldo Chaves was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Riachinho's Natanael Mesquita got a free kick in the 51st minute. After 54 played minutes Riachinho got a freekick which was hit by Dorival Dionísio. In the 55th minute, Ricardinho Matos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Libertadores booed when Riachinho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dorival Dionísio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wellington Lopez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Paulo Recife managed to get in a good position for a shot. Libertadores's supporters rose to their feet, but Paulo Recife was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bebeto Pires breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cauã Porto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 69th match minute, Libertadores was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Humberto Catarinense to maneuver through the defense. Hélio Neiva made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Wellington Lopez sent off a good shot on target. Bebeto Pires made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Recife in the 78th minute of play. Libertadores were awarded a corner in the 79th minute after Riachinho's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ricardinho Matos took the corner. Erivaldo Chaves received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Hélio Neiva came out and tried to block the shot, but Erivaldo Chaves slotted it home off the left post making it 0-2 in the 82nd minute. Hélio Neiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wellington Lopez in the 86th minute of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Riachinho had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
