Rodriguinho Varela fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dário Cavalcante having to interfere. Oswaldo Leão didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dedé Meira went, in the 16th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After 23 minutes, Vitinho Amorim mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Furia and the E.C Foz Do Iguaçu players grew even worse after the yellow card. Vitinho Amorim hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Furia's zone, Celsinho Mattos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. The crowd rose to their feet as Rodriguinho Varela kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Dário Cavalcante. That made the score 2-2 in the 26 minute of play. In the 30th minute, Celsinho Mattos left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The E.C Foz Do Iguaçu fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. The supporters of Furia booed when E.C Foz Do Iguaçu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alessandro Neiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 37 minutes, Valdo Paiva mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the E.C Foz Do Iguaçu and the Furia players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 37 played minutes E.C Foz Do Iguaçu got a freekick which was hit by Valdo Paiva. The supporters of Furia booed when E.C Foz Do Iguaçu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sydney de Alcântara didn't get a good kick on the ball. Oswaldo Leão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Celsinho Mattos in the 43rd minute of the match. Juvenal Vaz got his second yellow card in the match during the 45th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 45th match minute, Furia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juvenal Vaz to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Celsinho Mattos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Rodriguinho Varela fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Furia's protests and gave Rodriguinho Varela a yellow card for diving instead. After 51 played minutes Furia got a freekick which was hit by Rodriguinho Varela. Rubens Pernambucano hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling David Souto in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dário Cavalcante prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Oswaldo Leão made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dedé Meira in the 61st minute. Oswaldo Leão didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Celsinho Mattos went, in the 62nd minute, to the upper right corner, 3-4 was the resulting score. In the 65th minute, Dedé Meira reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Oswaldo Leão. The goal made the score 3-5. Vitinho Amorim was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 70 minutes into the match. When the match had been going on for 72 minutes, E.C Foz Do Iguaçu's Vitinho Travassos got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Oswaldo Leão. Dário Cavalcante didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from David Souto went, in the 86th minute, to the upper right corner, 5-6 was the resulting score. When André Luiz Leal came up free with the goalie in the 90th minute, the Furia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that André Luiz Leal couldn't finish the play. E.C Foz Do Iguaçu's Dário Cavalcante played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by David Souto in the 98th minute of play.
