After 3 minutes of play, Rapid SA's Vlajko Marotić made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Luiz Fábio Custódio was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Marcel Lopez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vlajko Marotić received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Luiz Fábio Custódio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vlajko Marotić recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 34th minute of the match Guilherme Teles sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Reynaldo Souza skillfully saved the ball. Luiz Fábio Custódio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rômulo Carvalho in the 40th minute of the match. 41 minutes into the game, Richard Sanches was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AE esporte clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Rapid SA the free kick. A collision led to AE esporte clube getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Richard Sanches hit a great ball. The AE esporte clube players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Rapid SA were winning 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vlajko Marotić to make the kick off. Ernani Reis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reynaldo Souza having to interfere. Luiz Fábio Custódio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rômulo Carvalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. After 64 played minutes AE esporte clube got a freekick which was hit by Rubinho Pimenta. Vlajko Marotić recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rômulo Carvalho in the 68th minute of play forced AE esporte clube's goalkeeper Luiz Fábio Custódio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ernani Reis struck a weak shot in the 72nd minute. Reynaldo Souza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AE esporte clube. A collision led to AE esporte clube getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Perivaldo Queirós hit a great ball. In the 80th minute, Rubinho Pimenta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Reynaldo Souza was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. Eliézer de Senna recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Rapid SA were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
