After a defensive mix-up in Orlando Pirates's zone, Manfredo Ferraz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorginho Maranhense came out of the goal and Manfredo Ferraz tried to chip the ball over his head. Orlando Pirates's Emerson Jacinto got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Erik Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tiago Arce kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Emerson Jacinto struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. José Augusto Pinho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Orlando Pirates. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Manfredo Ferraz made the kick off in the second half. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Erik Mendonça couldn't finish the play. Manfredo Ferraz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jorginho Maranhense read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 73rd minute of play. Luisão Araújo missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 93 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the José Augusto Pinho right hand side. Silas Moraes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
