With an all-out effort, Botafogo's Germano Donatello threw himself towards the right post 10 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Justino Rodriguez, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Nação Rubro-negra F.C's Germano Donatello proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Nação Rubro-negra F.C from getting a goal against them. In the 15th minute of the match Botafogo got a corner. Nação Rubro-negra F.C's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Despite this Germano Donatello quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Nação Rubro-negra F.C's Germano Donatello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Simão Rodrigues in the 16th minute of play. Simão Rodrigues scored 1-0 in the 16th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Germano Donatello, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Donato Hoffmann in the 20thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Germano Donatello, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 21st minute Dida Tasso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelo Toscano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But to his dismay, Simão Rodrigues quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 8-0. Paulinho de Lara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Germano Donatello having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Nação Rubro-negra F.C's Nelson Arruda got a free kick in the 78th minute. The Botafogo fans' excitement grew in the 80th match minute when Botafogo's Paulinho de Lara looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 9-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When Jânio Madureira fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nação Rubro-negra F.C's protests and gave Jânio Madureira a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Botafogo booed when Nação Rubro-negra F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jânio Madureira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Simão Rodrigues received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Germano Donatello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Botafogo had played much better football throughout.
