Juninho Marques was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Dinei Costa. Ramiro Urbano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Juninho Marques read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gil Félix during the 14th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 21st minute of the match, Haroldo Loureiro tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Juninho Marques saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. If Rômulo do Valle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dinei Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Juninho Marques tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Juninho Marques made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dinei Costa in the 36th minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

After a rather tough play, Black Hawks's Haroldo Loureiro got a free kick in the 53rd minute. If José Pedro Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The supporters of Sobral F.C. booed when Black Hawks was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guga Bueno didn't get a good kick on the ball.
