Fumbica FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ponte de Safena the free kick. A collision led to Fumbica FC getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. José Augusto Sarmento hit a great ball. Belmiro Dracena received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Darley Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fumbica FC's Darley Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Murilo Amorim in the 9th minute of play. During the 11th minute of the match José Augusto Sarmento completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave José Augusto Sarmento a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of Ponte de Safena booed when Fumbica FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Augusto Sarmento didn't get a good kick on the ball. Augusto Marinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darley Taffarel having to interfere. Luís Gustavo Fernandes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernando Terra, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Rubens Carneiro charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rubens Carneiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 24th match minute, Ponte de Safena was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rubens Carneiro to maneuver through the defense. Zülfikar Atlas might have been able to make a better finish in the 26th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luís Gustavo Fernandes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zülfikar Atlas ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 28th minute, Fernando Terra got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Zülfikar Atlas came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Fumbica FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zülfikar Atlas couldn't finish the play. In the 30th minute, Manuel de Senna hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luís Gustavo Fernandes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Fernando Terra's shot from short distance in the 34th minute. Agnaldo Alagoano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 41st match minute, Fumbica FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Germano Mello to maneuver through the defense.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Belmiro Dracena to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 61st minute, Ponte de Safena's Murilo Amorim dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. Rubens Carneiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Darley Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 68th minute, Zülfikar Atlas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Belmiro Dracena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 71st match minute, Fumbica FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Glauco Pombal to maneuver through the defense. Augusto Marinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Darley Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 75th minute, Belmiro Dracena got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 83rd minute Belmiro Dracena shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Darley Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zülfikar Atlas hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Belmiro Dracena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darley Taffarel having to interfere. Darley Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Murilo Amorim in the 92nd minute. Rubens Carneiro struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Darley Taffarel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ponte de Safena. When the match was over Ponte de Safena could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fumbica FC throughout the match.
