After some careless play in the xeretinha defense, André Luís Castro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luís Machado. The xeretinha fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luís Machado should have stopped the shot. Luís Machado made an important save on a dangerous shot by André Luís Castro in the 13th minute. Fabiano Pimenta didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jano Tavares went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. In the 18th minute of the match, Bernardinho de Barros tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Luís Machado saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 19th minute, Wilson Seco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Piaui getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Maurinho Magalhães hit a great ball. 24 minutes into the match, Piaui's Bernardinho de Barros sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Luís Machado narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Piaui's Marcus Monteiro suffered a sore thigh after 24 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Wilson Seco kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. In the 29th minute Samuel da Rocha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabiano Pimenta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Samuel da Rocha blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fabiano Pimenta having to make a save. Jano Tavares took the ball and in the 35 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fabiano Pimenta. Fabiano Pimenta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. 37 minutes into the game, Bernardinho de Barros was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Piaui's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave xeretinha the free kick. Jano Tavares took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fabiano Pimenta. Fabiano Pimenta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. In the 41st minute, André Luís Castro made a precise shot to the right of Luís Machado. xeretinha's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. Andrézinho Terra sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bernardinho de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Machado having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bernardinho de Barros was the one to do the kick off. Fabiano Pimenta made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Jano Tavares sent off a good shot on target. After 53 played minutes Piaui got a freekick which was hit by Maurinho Magalhães. After a rather tough play, Piaui's Erivaldo de Lima got a free kick in the 54th minute. After having played for 62 minutes, Wilson Seco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. xeretinha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wilson Seco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 63 played minutes xeretinha got a freekick which was hit by Paulão Barbosa. Bernardinho de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Machado having to interfere. After 67 minutes of play xeretinha's Wilson Seco was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Wilson Seco hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Bernardinho de Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 75 minutes into the match, xeretinha's goal looked a bit too open when Andrézinho Terra came free, but Luís Machado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Maurinho Magalhães received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Luís Machado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. André Luís Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fabiano Pimenta was a little too slow when Samuel da Rocha got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 80th minute. The score was now 2-4. After a rather tough play, xeretinha's João Francisco Valle got a free kick in the 82nd minute. Fabiano Pimenta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jano Tavares, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. xeretinha's Luís Machado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by André Luís Castro in the 89th minute of play. If Bernardinho de Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 93 minutes, Bernardinho de Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Piaui's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernardinho de Barros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. André Luís Castro scored 3-4 in the 97th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Luís Machado, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Piaui lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
