Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 34th minute Doni Proença shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio Buffon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cláudio Buffon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hernani Sanches, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. VASCO DA ROLA:s Cláudio Buffon showed great skill when he stopped Hernani Ortiz:s penalty.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Charles Carioca was the one to do the kick off. Cláudio Buffon made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Hernani Sanches sent off a good shot on target. Roberto Tinoco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Mineiro in the 58th minute of play. Charles Carioca struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Cláudio Buffon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Indios SS. The audience was convinced that Charles Carioca's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cláudio Buffon was relentless in the 82nd minute of the game.
