Hortêncio Freire made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcus Monteiro in the 8th minute of play. When Carlos Augusto Cunha fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AMATRICIANA's protests and gave Carlos Augusto Cunha a yellow card for diving instead. Carlos Augusto Cunha hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Bernardinho de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hortêncio Freire having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 18 minutes, André Luís Castro put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Hortêncio Freire. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, André Luís Castro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Piaui's supporters rose to their feet, but André Luís Castro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hortêncio Freire breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. AMATRICIANA's Hortêncio Freire proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save AMATRICIANA from getting a goal against them. Hortêncio Freire was out of position in the 30 minute of play, and Bernardinho de Barros capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Bernardinho de Barros really showed his touch with that goal: 4-1. Hortêncio Freire had great luck who in the 33rdth minute grab hold of the ball when Bernardinho de Barros from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Hortêncio Freire made an important save on a dangerous shot by André Luís Castro in the 34th minute. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Bernardinho de Barros put it in 5-1 from a short distance just to the right of Hortêncio Freire. A hard shot 40 in the game by André Luís Castro from a close distance when the talented Hortêncio Freire managed to make a qualified save. AMATRICIANA's players were relieved. Maurinho Magalhães was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 41st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in AMATRICIANA's zone, Adalberto Barral stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hortêncio Freire came out of the goal and Adalberto Barral tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Hortêncio Freire made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when André Luís Castro sent off a good shot on target. 48 minutes into the game, Piaui's Maurinho Magalhães nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hortêncio Freire made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 6-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Eliézer Prado made a kick off. 54 minutes into the match, Natã Gomes dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Fabiano Pimenta, 6-2. In the 60th minute, Natã Gomes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Bernardinho de Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Adalberto Barral came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Piaui fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adalberto Barral couldn't finish the play. In the 69th minute Maurinho Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hortêncio Freire saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Piaui's Bernardinho de Barros got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Piaui booed when AMATRICIANA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Natã Gomes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bernardinho de Barros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hortêncio Freire having to interfere. After having played for 90 minutes, Marcus Monteiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Piaui's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcus Monteiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 92nd minute Maurinho Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hortêncio Freire saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. José Augusto Dionísio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabiano Pimenta having to interfere. Piaui's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
