After 5 minutes, Hermínio Trigo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Timão United and the Palmares FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Timão United's Hermínio Trigo got a free kick in the 5th minute. After 6 played minutes, Palmares FC's Júnior Santos shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Agostinho Nascimento came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Palmares FC reached it. Hernani Saldanha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Agostinho Nascimento having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 8 minutes, Pedro Augusto Rezende put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Agostinho Nascimento. 16 minutes into the match, Palmares FC's goal looked a bit too open when Hermínio Trigo came free, but Aníbal de Almeida reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lauro Simões hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. An unexpected shot in the 21st minute by Hermínio Trigo got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. With a little luck, Palmares FC's Aníbal de Almeida got control of the ball when Lauro Chaves tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Romário Quadros fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Palmares FC's protests and gave Romário Quadros a yellow card for diving instead. Romário Quadros hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Palmares FC's goalkeeper Aníbal de Almeida, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Pedro Augusto Rezende received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Agostinho Nascimento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Pedro Augusto Rezende managed to get in a good position for a shot. Palmares FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Pedro Augusto Rezende was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Agostinho Nascimento breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Hernani Saldanha ran back to his position shaking his head. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Pedro Augusto Rezende made the kick off in the second half. Pedro Augusto Rezende let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 64th minute shot 0-2 at rihgt post. If Hernani Saldanha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 73rd match minute, Palmares FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lauro Simões to maneuver through the defense. Agostinho Nascimento made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pedro Augusto Rezende in the 77th minute. Agostinho Nascimento stood somewhat misplaced when Pedro Augusto Rezende came free in front of goal and shot 0-3 to the left of him in the 80 minute. Pedro Augusto Rezendes short, quick shot in the 95thth minute got Agostinho Nascimento to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Palmares FC played a much better game than Timão United and deserved their victory. The Timão United players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
