The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The referee felt a red card was in order, 3 minutes into the game, when Hernani Paulista put in a rough tackle. The SC Corinthians fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. When Romeu Miranda fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. In the 37th minute, Franklin Siqueira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Genílson Mendonça was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Franklin Siqueira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Genílson Mendonça having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wiliam Quadros in the 42nd minute of play forced SC Corinthians's goalkeeper Genílson Mendonça to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Franklin Siqueira made the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, Chaves EC's goalkeeper Koray Demirtuğ had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dito Santos. A hard shot by Ademar Palmeira from long distance, 90 minutes into the match, got Koray Demirtuğ's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After 90 minutes, Franklin Siqueira mouthed his way into the referee's book. Michel da Mata recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched SC Corinthians eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
