The audience was convinced that Ruy Azevedo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sidnei Pombal was relentless in the 5th minute of the game. The supporters of Cachaceiros FC booed when Roma Sc was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dida Valadares didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th minute of the match Yan Salgado sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sidnei Pombal skillfully saved the ball. Sidnei Pombal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dudu Hoffmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Robinho Alcântara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anselmo Saraiva in the 17th minute of play. After 18 minutes, Adelino Schmidt mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cachaceiros FC and the Roma Sc players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dida Valadares during the 28th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 28 played minutes Roma Sc got a freekick which was hit by Dida Valadares. Osmar Santos struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Sidnei Pombal didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cachaceiros FC. Sidnei Pombal didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ruy Azevedo went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Sidnei Pombal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruy Azevedo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Osmar Santos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Cachaceiros FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ruy Azevedo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the game, Anselmo Saraiva was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Roma Sc's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cachaceiros FC the free kick. A collision led to Roma Sc getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Anselmo Saraiva hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Cachaceiros FC defense, Anselmo Saraiva kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Robinho Alcântara. The Cachaceiros FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Robinho Alcântara should have stopped the shot. Robinho Alcântara came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by Roma Sc's Serginho Tasso. But to his dismay, Serginho Tasso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3. When the match had gone on for 74 minutes, Edgar Souza put it in 3-3 from a short distance just to the right of Robinho Alcântara. In the 79th match minute, Roma Sc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by João Santana to maneuver through the defense. Robinho Alcântara showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edgar Souza, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Ruy Azevedo in the 82ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Sidnei Pombal, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 83rd minute, Serginho Tasso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Roma Sc's José Ramalho got a free kick in the 88th minute. Anselmo Saraiva kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. The Roma Sc supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Cachaceiros FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Cachaceiros FC.
