When the match clock showed 9 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Lino Tavares sped through Apinage SC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Richard de Mendonça. In the 12th minute Lino Tavares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard de Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rogério de Lima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Richard de Mendonça having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Emerson Peres during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Apinage SC booed when Iracema was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emerson Peres didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Enrique Lara fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Iracema's protests and gave Enrique Lara a yellow card for diving instead. After 24 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Iracema! In the 26th minute there was a penalty for Apinage SC. João Augusto Azevedo stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ricardinho Fernandes. 1-1. Samuel da Cunha struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Ricardinho Fernandes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Apinage SC. In a very dangerous position, a player in Apinage SC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 34th minute. Penalty! Lino Tavares had several of the Apinage SC's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 35 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 2-1 score and a disappointed Richard de Mendonça as he didn't even see the shot coming. Emerson Peres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 39th minute, Rogério de Lima got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Richard de Mendonça acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 41st minute, took the ball on the long shot from Tiago Penha. The audience was convinced that Lino Tavares's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Richard de Mendonça was relentless in the 46th minute of the game. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

In the 52nd minute, Lino Tavares left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Iracema fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lino Tavares in the 58th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Richard de Mendonça saved Apinage SC from getting behind. Cláudio Mazza's late challenge caught a Iracema's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cláudio Mazza helped the player get up and apologised. Cláudio Mazza hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Edu de Sousa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Ricardinho Fernandes made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Samuel da Cunha in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ricardinho Fernandes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ricardinho Fernandes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Samuel da Cunha in the 66th minute of the match. The supporters of Apinage SC booed when Iracema was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tiago Penha didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 69th minute, Emerson Peres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kaká Maranhense got free with Ricardinho Fernandes in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tiago Penha took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 75th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Richard de Mendonça. Apinage SC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Apinage SC's Richard de Mendonça played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lino Tavares in the 77th minute of play. Lino Tavares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emerson Peres couldn't finish the play. In the 97th minute, Rogério de Lima got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Apinage SC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Iracema.
