After some careless play in the Santo defense, Rony Rocha kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dedé Zonta. The Santo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dedé Zonta should have stopped the shot. In the 58th match minute, Castanhao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wiliam Nunes to maneuver through the defense. Wellington Maia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Dedé Zonta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valdemar Dante's late challenge caught a Castanhao's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When Castanhao's Robbie Ward, in the 74th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Castanhao. When Rony Rocha came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Castanhao fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rony Rocha couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rony Rocha in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dedé Zonta saved Santo from getting behind. After 86 minutes, Pedro de Salles mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Santo and the Castanhao players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Castanhao booed when Santo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro de Salles didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Castanhao getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Wiliam Nunes hit a great ball. Castanhao's Jacinto Barreto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro de Salles in the 94th minute of play. Eugênio Motta didn't quite understand what happened when in the 98 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet. Santo's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
