After 3 minutes, Válter Lago mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Corinthians and the São Carlos players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 3 played minutes Corinthians got a freekick which was hit by Válter Lago. After a defensive mix-up in Corinthians's zone, Eugênio Nascimento stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lucas Pitta came out of the goal and Eugênio Nascimento tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 7 minutes into the match, Matías Pimenta had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lucas Pitta. Corinthians's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Matías Pimenta was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. William das Neves stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Flávio Fonseca's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. In the 10th match minute, São Carlos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dênis Martins to maneuver through the defense. Wilton Medeiros took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 11th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for William das Neves. São Carlos's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 14th minute of the match, Eugênio Nascimento tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Lucas Pitta saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 19th minute Flávio Fonseca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but William das Neves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eugênio Nascimento in the 22nd minute of play forced Corinthians's goalkeeper Lucas Pitta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Corinthians's Diamantino Duarte got a free kick in the 23rd minute. São Carlos's William das Neves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flávio Fonseca in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th minute, Dito Mendonça hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 28th minute, Eugênio Nascimento ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lucas Pitta was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Manuel Ortiz was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 31 minutes into the match. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 30th minute of the game. One of São Carlos:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Corinthians:s goal. William das Neves didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Wilton Medeiros went, in the 33rd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. After 37 played minutes São Carlos got a freekick which was hit by Jefferson Barral. William das Neves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Fernando Cardoso, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Eugênio Nascimento to make the kick off. Flávio Fonseca could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but William das Neves made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Cardoso in the 69th minute of play forced Corinthians's goalkeeper Lucas Pitta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 71 minutes into the match, Corinthians's goal looked a bit too open when Eugênio Nascimento came free, but Lucas Pitta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dito Mendonça's late challenge caught a São Carlos's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eugênio Nascimento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lucas Pitta having to interfere. Corinthians's Válter Lago got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eugênio Nascimento charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eugênio Nascimento the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 89 played minutes São Carlos got a freekick which was hit by Eugênio Nascimento. In the 92nd minute Wágner Arce shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but William das Neves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Válter Lago received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. William das Neves came out and tried to block the shot, but Válter Lago slotted it home off the left post making it 2-5 in the 93rd minute. Corinthians were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over São Carlos's much stronger midfield.
