But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aílton Gaspar couldn't finish the play. Aílton Gaspar's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Kaká Guimarães firmly grabbed it by the left post. Kaká Guimarães showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aílton Gaspar in the 15th minute of the match. In the 22nd minute Conrado de Amorim shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dário Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aílton Gaspar who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 47thth minute tested the skills of Kaká Guimarães when he managed to save the team from getting behind. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Aílton Gaspar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Matías Brito had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Aílton Gaspar's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kaká Guimarães was relentless in the 54th minute of the game.
