Magno Figueiredo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dudu Meireles in the 40th minute of the match. 42 minutes into the game, Luisão Marquez was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Inter do Rio do Janeiro's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Zundao the free kick. In the 43rdth minute of the game Ramón de Salles who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Inter do Rio do Janeiro's Lino Custódio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Bernardinho Pontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bernardinho Pontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lino Custódio having to interfere. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After having played for 53 minutes, Ramón de Salles managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Zundao's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ramón de Salles was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lino Custódio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Lino Custódio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ramón de Salles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Zundao's zone, Serginho Batista stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Magno Figueiredo came out of the goal and Serginho Batista tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Zundao getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Diamantino Mendonça hit a great ball. Dudu Meireles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Magno Figueiredo having to interfere. Inter do Rio do Janeiro were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
