The referee ignored Therezina's protests and gave Marcus Azevedo a yellow card for diving instead. In the 13th match minute, Therezina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcus Azevedo to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute, Duarte Nogueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Inter do Rio do Janeiro's Luiz Arantes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Manfredo Ferreira in the 52nd minute of play. In the 76thth minute of the game Manfredo Ferreira who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Inter do Rio do Janeiro's Luiz Arantes was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luiz Arantes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paulinho Carioca, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. When Therezina's Paulinho Carioca in the 78th minute got a chance for a shot 78th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Therezina's Vânderson Nogueira couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 89th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Inter do Rio do Janeiro. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Manfredo Ferreira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Therezina's supporters rose to their feet, but Manfredo Ferreira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luiz Arantes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Manfredo Ferreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulinho Carioca in the 97th minute of play forced Inter do Rio do Janeiro's goalkeeper Luiz Arantes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Therezina fans cheered their team off the field, for while Inter do Rio do Janeiro had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
