After a defensive mix-up in Varjoia SC's zone, Guilherme Marques stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Osmar Martins came out of the goal and Guilherme Marques tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Erik de Amaral received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Osmar Martins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Hortêncio Capixaba fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ASS. ESPORTIVO SAPIRANGA's protests and gave Hortêncio Capixaba a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 16th minute of the game. One of ASS. ESPORTIVO SAPIRANGA:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Varjoia SC:s goal. Antônio do Vale sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marcel Camargo hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Tião França came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by Varjoia SC's Antônio do Vale. But to his dismay, Antônio do Vale quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Guilherme Marques fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Osmar Martins having to interfere. Raphael Antunes hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. In the 34th match minute, ASS. ESPORTIVO SAPIRANGA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hortêncio Capixaba to maneuver through the defense. In the 36th minute of the match Maicon Nóbrega shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Tião França showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Guilherme Marques was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Varjoia SC's goal looked a bit too open when Renatinho Ortiz came free, but Osmar Martins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. ESPORTIVO SAPIRANGA's supporters rose to their feet, but Marcel Camargo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Osmar Martins breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 76 minutes into the match, Varjoia SC's goalkeeper Osmar Martins had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Guilherme Marques. Fabrício Urbano charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fabrício Urbano the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 88 minutes, Cauã Nunes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Varjoia SC and the ASS. ESPORTIVO SAPIRANGA players grew even worse after the yellow card.
