After 15 minutes of play, Cosmos FC's Edu Medeiros made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Claudinho Severo was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a little luck, Guanandi's Claudinho Severo got control of the ball when Edu Medeiros tried to sneak it across the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Edu Medeiros kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Claudinho Severo. That made the score 2-0 in the 21 minute of play. 25 minutes into the game, Guanandi's César Dionísio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Donato Queirós made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Claudinho Severo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edu Medeiros in the 34th minute of play. Guanandi's Claudinho Severo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edu Medeiros in the 37th minute of play. 40 minutes into the match, Fred Toscano dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Claudinho Severo, 3-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by César Dionísio in the 44th minute of play forced Cosmos FC's goalkeeper Donato Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fernando Ribeiro to make the kick off. Cacá dos Santos might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Donato Queirós. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cacá dos Santos ran back to his position shaking his head. Guanandi's César Dionísio got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Guanandi's Telmo Ramalho was substituted for Roberto Meira. Guanandi's Leonel de Azevedo was substituted for Cléber de Azevedo. The crowd rose to their feet as Guanandi's César Dionísio slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Donato Queirós. That made the score 4-2 after 61 minutes of play. In the 72nd minute, Leonel de Azevedo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Raphael Baiano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Donato Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Jorginho Barbosa fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cosmos FC's protests and gave Jorginho Barbosa a yellow card for diving instead. Jorginho Barbosa hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. Fernando Ribeiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Donato Queirós having to make a save. When Telmo Ramalho came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Guanandi fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Telmo Ramalho couldn't finish the play. Guanandi's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
