Mário Matos was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. COLUMBUS CREW BR's Mário Matos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caco Pinho in the 13th minute of play. In the 16th match minute, Sputnik FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gernando Madureira to maneuver through the defense. Guilherme Vieira made an important save on a dangerous shot by Horácio Mandrak in the 17th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Francisco da Costa notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of COLUMBUS CREW BR's Mário Matos. Mário Matos was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 24 minutes into the match, Sputnik FC's Francisco da Costa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mário Matos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Celso Zanette's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 27thth minute, Guilherme Vieira skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Francisco da Costa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Enrique Baiano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Guilherme Vieira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Francisco da Costa in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mário Matos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gernando Madureira kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. 44 minutes into the match, Francisco da Costa had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mário Matos. COLUMBUS CREW BR's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Francisco da Costa was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-4. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

56 minutes into the game, Leonardo Coutinho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. COLUMBUS CREW BR's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sputnik FC the free kick. A collision led to COLUMBUS CREW BR getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Leonardo Coutinho hit a great ball. If Francisco da Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Emanuel Tróia could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Mário Matos made a huge save. Emanuel Tróia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 69th minute Celso Zanette shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guilherme Vieira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leonardo Coutinho got his second yellow card in the match during the 72nd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, COLUMBUS CREW BR's Leonardo Coutinho got a free kick in the 72nd minute. After some careless play in the COLUMBUS CREW BR defense, Deivid Tavares kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mário Matos. The COLUMBUS CREW BR fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mário Matos should have stopped the shot. With a little luck, COLUMBUS CREW BR's Mário Matos got control of the ball when Emanuel Tróia tried to sneak it across the goal line. Mário Matos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco da Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
