The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ian Diniz charged in rather forcefully in the 14th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Benê de Sousa to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benê de Sousa in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arnaldo Catarinense saved E.C. Paulistão from getting behind. Benê de Sousa received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Arnaldo Catarinense came out and tried to block the shot, but Benê de Sousa slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 57th minute.
