One of Esporte Clube Italva:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of GRÊMIO:s goal. The GRÊMIO fans' excitement grew in the 7th match minute when GRÊMIO's 史挺南 looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When GRÊMIO's 史挺南 in the 11th minute got a chance for a shot 11th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Esporte Clube Italva's goalie prevented a goal. Hílton do Valle was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 16 minutes into the match, Esporte Clube Italva's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Gustavo Mazza came free, but Hílton do Valle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 18th minute Luiz Gustavo Mazza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hílton do Valle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tiago Xavier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hílton do Valle having to interfere. Luiz Gustavo Mazza took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hílton do Valle. Hílton do Valle dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. After a defensive mix-up in Esporte Clube Italva's zone, Abel Pirani stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hílton do Valle came out of the goal and Abel Pirani tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 29th minute, Erivaldo Teixeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silvério Pinheiro in the 31st minute of play forced Esporte Clube Italva's goalkeeper Hílton do Valle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by Esporte Clube Italva's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Aníbal Moura was slow to take the kick. During this time GRÊMIO's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on GRÊMIO's corner Aníbal Moura fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Hílton do Valle quite easily take care of the ball. In the 34th minute 史挺南 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hílton do Valle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Silvério Pinheiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 37 minutes, 史挺南 made it 0-5 with a short kick to the right side. Esporte Clube Italva's Hílton do Valle tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers 史挺南 in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hílton do Valle saved Esporte Clube Italva from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, 史挺南 managed to get in a good position for a shot. GRÊMIO's supporters rose to their feet, but 史挺南 was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hílton do Valle breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The GRÊMIO fans' excitement grew in the 45th match minute when GRÊMIO's 史挺南 looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-6 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-6 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hílton Travassos was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when 史挺南 got free with Hílton do Valle in the 51st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Mauro Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers 史挺南 in the 59th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hílton do Valle saved Esporte Clube Italva from getting behind. Narciso Pereira's late challenge caught a GRÊMIO's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Narciso Pereira helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Esporte Clube Italva's Narciso Pereira got a free kick in the 60th minute. If Luiz Gustavo Mazza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 69th minute, Mané Leite hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hílton do Valle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aníbal Moura in the 70th minute of play. Sergio Goicoechea stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hílton Travassos's shot from short distance in the 76th minute. Hílton do Valle made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when 史挺南 sent off a good shot on target. In the 86th minute, GRÊMIO's 史挺南 ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Hílton do Valle. Hílton do Valle yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-8. 91 minutes into the game, 史挺南 recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Hílton do Valle. 史挺南 showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-9. When the match was over GRÊMIO could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Esporte Clube Italva throughout the match.
