Ronaldinho Gaúcho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 4th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. S.C. Internacional's Clemente Dionísio got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 13th minute Hubert Pihl shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diguinho Toledo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diguinho Toledo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hubert Pihl, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 16th minute, Hubert Pihl ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Diguinho Toledo was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Gugu Ortiz hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. S.C. Internacional's Bogumil Jarmulowicz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save S.C. Internacional from getting a goal against them. Bogumil Jarmulowicz made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Laurent Lanen sent off a good shot on target. Bogumil Jarmulowicz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Yan Vieira went, in the 28th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ronaldinho Gaúcho in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bogumil Jarmulowicz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to S.C. Internacional getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Clemente Dionísio hit a great ball. In the 36th match minute, S.C. Internacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hubert Pihl to maneuver through the defense. Bogumil Jarmulowicz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Laurent Lanen in the 38th minute. In the 39th minute Ronaldinho Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bogumil Jarmulowicz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
