In the 5th minute, Gongonhas SS's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Dadá Paraense fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Murillo Rezende could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 6th minute of the match, but Julio-César Fenomeno made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luís Fernando Arantes got free with Julio-César Fenomeno in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Severino Mendes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Julio-César Fenomeno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dadá Paraense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 17 minutes, Diamantino da Cunha managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gongonhas SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Diamantino da Cunha was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 18 minutes into the match, Placa's goal looked a bit too open when Diamantino da Cunha came free, but Pedrinho Pinho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 21 played minutes Gongonhas SS got a freekick which was hit by Célio Trevisan. Julio-César Fenomeno showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dadá Paraense in the 25th minute of the match. Célio Trevisan kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Murillo Rezende got free with Julio-César Fenomeno in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Placa's Eusébio Severo got a free kick in the 33rd minute. In the 35th minute of the match Dito da Silva shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pedrinho Pinho showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 36 minutes into the game, Gongonhas SS's Célio Trevisan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pedrinho Pinho made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Célio Trevisan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Placa getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Basílio Silva hit a great ball. 42 minutes into the match, Gongonhas SS's Murillo Bastos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pedrinho Pinho narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Julio-César Fenomeno made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when Luís Fernando Arantes sent off a good shot on target. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Chico Antunes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Placa defense, Chico Antunes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pedrinho Pinho. The Placa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedrinho Pinho should have stopped the shot. In the 55th minute Luís Fernando Arantes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio-César Fenomeno saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 59 minutes into the match, Placa's goal looked a bit too open when Célio Trevisan came free, but Pedrinho Pinho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio-César Fenomeno made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Fernando Arantes in the 60th minute of play. After 63 played minutes Célio Trevisan rounded Placa's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-3. 66 minutes into the match, Gongonhas SS's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Fernando Arantes came free, but Julio-César Fenomeno reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pedrinho Pinho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chico Antunes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Murillo Rezende hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Chico Antunes in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pedrinho Pinho saved Placa from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fernando Arantes in the 85th minute of play forced Gongonhas SS's goalkeeper Julio-César Fenomeno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Chico Antunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gongonhas SS's Julio-César Fenomeno played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Fernando Arantes in the 88th minute of play. Luís Fernando Arantes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute Chico Antunes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedrinho Pinho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diamantino da Cunha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Pedrinho Pinho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Chico Antunes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gongonhas SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Chico Antunes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pedrinho Pinho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Dito da Silva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Gongonhas SS had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
