In the 9th minute, one of Goiatuba E.C.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Goiatuba E.C.. When the match had been going on for 10 minutes, Atlético Mineiro's Tomé Brasil got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Marcel Kühlert. If Olívio França had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 13th minute, Belmiro Porto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Olívio França took the ball and in the 14 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcel Kühlert. Marcel Kühlert dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. The crowd rose to their feet as Atlético Mineiro's César de Queiroz slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Marcel Kühlert. That made the score 4-0 after 24 minutes of play. José Paulo Dracena charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed José Paulo Dracena the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. José Paulo Dracena kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. In the 33rd match minute, Goiatuba E.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gugu Abraão to maneuver through the defense. César de Queiroz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Goiatuba E.C.'s zone, César de Queiroz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcel Kühlert came out of the goal and César de Queiroz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, César de Queiroz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Mineiro's supporters rose to their feet, but César de Queiroz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcel Kühlert breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Olívio França's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcel Kühlert read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. 47 minutes in the game, César de Queiroz fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Marcel Kühlert having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 5-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Olívio França made a kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, Olívio França managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atlético Mineiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Olívio França was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Goiatuba E.C.'s zone, Olívio França stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcel Kühlert came out of the goal and Olívio França tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Belmiro Porto fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Goiatuba E.C.'s protests and gave Belmiro Porto a yellow card for diving instead. In the 53rd match minute, Goiatuba E.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Belmiro Porto to maneuver through the defense. After 55 played minutes Atlético Mineiro got a freekick which was hit by Antony Quaresma. César de Queiroz took the ball and in the 58 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcel Kühlert. Marcel Kühlert took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomé Brasil, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gugu Abraão charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 68th minute André Luís Best shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcel Kühlert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olívio França blasted a shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcel Kühlert having to make a save. After 69 minutes of play Goiatuba E.C.'s Gugu Abraão was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 70th match minute, Goiatuba E.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gugu Abraão to maneuver through the defense. Goiatuba E.C.'s Marcel Kühlert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olívio França in the 73rd minute of play. After some careless play in the Goiatuba E.C. defense, Olívio França kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcel Kühlert. The Goiatuba E.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcel Kühlert should have stopped the shot. With a little luck, Atlético Mineiro's Fynn John got control of the ball when Caco Arantes tried to sneak it across the goal line. Olívio França might have been able to make a better finish in the 85th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcel Kühlert. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Olívio França ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 85th minute, Walmyr Guimarães hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 88th minute Tomé Brasil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcel Kühlert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Atlético Mineiro's Walmyr Guimarães got a free kick in the 89th minute. If Olívio França had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Atlético Mineiro fully deserved thier win.
