FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 3rd minute of the match, managed to save FC Schalke 04 from getting a goal against them. When Josué Novaes fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Desemboque's protests and gave Josué Novaes a yellow card for diving instead. 14 minutes into the match, Desemboque's goal looked a bit too open when Fe De came free, but Carlinhos Vasconcelos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Hans Arp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lúcio Simões made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Carlos Romero in the 19th minute of play. In the 21st minute, Tiburcio Iago left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Schalke 04 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Lúcio Simões showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Carlos Romero, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hans Arp in the 34th minute of play forced Desemboque's goalkeeper Carlinhos Vasconcelos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 35 minutes, Lúcio Simões successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Carlinhos Vasconcelos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hans Arp in the 39th minute of play. In the 40th minute João Carlos Romero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lúcio Simões saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Desemboque's Silvinho Donato got a free kick in the 46th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Carlinhos Vasconcelos came out of the goal in the 57th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Schalke 04's Fe De. But to his dismay, Fe De quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Gheorghe Baldu's late challenge caught a Desemboque's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gheorghe Baldu helped the player get up and apologised. Tiago Gabriel Goiano kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Lúcio Simões didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Desemboque. In the 90th minute, Diego Arruda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. FC Schalke 04's Lúcio Simões played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sérgio Vianna in the 94th minute of play. In the 96th minute of the match Delfim Dionísio shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Lúcio Simões showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball.
